We value living simply. We offer all our summer staff housing and food for the summer, plus a financial stipend.
Housing
Free housing is available for all staff. Neighborhood Youth Ministry (NYM) staff live in staff apartments provided by The Boston Project. Summer Mission Program (SMP) staff live with youth groups (sleeping bags on the floor) during program weeks, and in staff apartments on weekends and days off. Due to limited space, each summer staff person must be able to fit all belongings into one large storage tub.Food
All meals are provided in one of three ways: program-related meals (eating with participants), staff community meals, or making your own meals with food stocked in the staff apartments. Dining out and special snacks are at staff's own expense.Financial Stipend
Financial stipends are based on your position within each program. Normally, stipends start at $2,000 for Staff Counselors, and increase for Director and Coordinator positions.Raising Missionary Support (optional)
Staff also have the opportunity to raise additional financial support. If you have financial needs above the offered stipend, we are able to provide assistance towards this goal. The Boston Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so all donations are income tax deductible. The summer schedule is rigorous, so we suggest working on raising support prior to coming into training.Vacation Time
Because of the short length (10.5 weeks) of our summer program and intensity of a summer staff position, we encourage staff to take additional time off only when absolutely necessary.Summer Missions Program: The Boston Project provides time off for rest and recovery during weekends and two longer staff breaks and weekends. Most weekends from Friday 2:00pm to Sunday 2:00pm are off, with a few exceptions where time off starts at 5:00 pm on Friday (see summer schedule).
The Summer Missions Program operates six intense weeks that require total commitment from our staff from Sunday 2:00pm to Friday 2:00pm (slightly longer for directors). During this time, staff should not expect to conduct personal business or have time off. The entire summer program including training, mission weeks, and closure is 10.5 weeks.
Neighborhood Youth Ministries: The Boston Project provides time off to rest each weekend. As typical with youth worker positions, there are daytime and some evening responsibilities with your job (on average two nights per week). We do have 1-2 retreats during the summer to provide additional refreshment for our staff. The summer program is 7 weeks and including training and closure the total time commitment comes to 10.5 weeks.
