Lodging, Showers & Food

Groups stay at a local church or community ministry house. Everyone sleeps on the floor and needs to bring a sleeping bag. Each housing site consists of one to four youth groups typically not exceeding 30 people total per site.

All participants have the opportunity to shower twice a week at the local YMCA or our housing location. Don’t worry – two showers have always been more than enough. Some people even choose to skip one for a few extra minutes of shut-eye!

All meals are provided from Sunday dinner until Friday breakfast except for your Dinner Downtown (see below). We serve a breakfast buffet, brown bag lunch, and family-style dinners.

Transportation

Groups are responsible for providing transportation to and from Boston.

During a week with The Boston Project, groups are responsible for transportation for members of their team, plus extra seats for Boston Project staff (about one extra seat for every 5 participants).

Groups are also responsible for the cost of using the local subway (the "T"), when necessary. The "T" costs $1.70 per person per one-way ride. We recommend you budget an extra $12 per person for subway fare.

Sight-seeing in Boston

The Boston Project schedule is intense, and does not allow for a lot of free time for sight-seeing. Groups have one “Dinner Downtown” – a late afternoon/evening (about 4 hours) during their week to relax, sightsee, and grab dinner together in downtown Boston. Groups are responsible for all expenses during this time, including dinner and transportation. The Boston Project can provide direction and suggestions for groups unfamiliar with the city. Please do not plan on attending sporting or other events without checking with us first. We may already have service commitments or evening programming scheduled for after your Dinner Downtown.

Spending Money

Each person should plan on bringing about $30-40 spending money for the following:
  • About $12 for subway fare to get to service sites and downtown
  • $10-20 for Dinner Downtown
  • A few dollars a day for “Pit Stops” (optional afternoon snacks around town)
  • Any money for souvenirs, etc.
