Youth Activities (ages 13-18)

Checkersl

Park Patrol (new!)

The youth need employment opportunities and creative avenues for their energy during the summer. This summer we will run a program designed to get young people engaged in green space advocacy. This exciting pilot program will employ about 8-10 youth between the ages of twelve and fourteen in a full summer of training and running activities. Participants will develop key leadership skills as they assist in volunteer mobilization for the restoration of the Codman Burial Ground working with the Urban Ecology Institute and learn about the neighborhood in which they live!

Youth Internships (expanded!)

For the last three years we have employed 1-2 youth during the summer months. This year we are excited to be in partnership with New Horizons, a program out of Bruce Wall Ministries, which finds placements for Boston teenagers for the summer. This will be our first year as a New Horizon’s site. We are looking forward to working with 6 youth interns this summer!

Reel-to-Real (new!)

Due to growing issues of youth violence in Boston our young people need a safe place off the street corner to interact with each other at night (which historically is the most dangerous time for them). On Monday nights Reel-to-Real will run during the later evening hours. Teens will work through a program called Understanding Violence. The program has them interact with video clips through discussion, journaling and police guided workshops. On Wednesday nights, we will offer alternatives to hanging out on the street such as trips downtown to see Shakespeare on the Common or group game nights.

Youth Bible Study (expanded!)

On Tuesday and Thursday nights we will study the Bible together in order to understand the way that God values us. The studies will follow the theme of belonging to God and how
