We host groups of all ages for one-day service projects throughout the academic year (September-May). This is a great way for your team to put your faith into action and to explore a possible longer-term relationship with an urban ministry. Our service days are designed to expose your team to what God is doing in the city and to provide you with hands-on opportunities to serve.
Service day projects are diverse based on the needs of our neighbors, service partners, and our own ministry. One-day projects are designed to be completed within your time here, when possible. Examples include cleaning out a senior’s basement, landscaping for a church, helping to sort clothes or assemble homemade sleeping bags for those homeless, participate in food distribution, or small construction and demolition projects. These opportunities are created for your group based on our availability and your interests.
Who Can Come?
We host groups from 5 to 25 in size. Groups who have come in the past include:- Junior and Senior High youth groups
- College groups
- Young adult teams
- Adult small groups
- Men's ministry groups
- Women's ministry groups
- Senior's groups
We place a special priority on hosting churches that have a long-term relationship with The Boston Project Ministries.
When Can We Come?
During the academic year (September-May), we host teams on weekdays, weekends, and holidays. We have not had the capacity yet to host service days during the summer due to our large Summer Missions Program. However, still contact us if you are interested. What does a day look like?
Boston Project staff and your team work hand-in-hand to complete our service projects. Normally groups arrive around 9:30 AM and begin with an orientation and devotional. Within an hour, we are off to our service projects (larger teams may be sent to multiple projects). We have lunch at our respective projects and continue to work until mid-afternoon (3:00-4:00 PM). We have your entire team come back together for a time to share about the day and what they learned. Then you are headed back for home by 4:30 PM.What do I bring?
We ask each person to bring their own brown bag lunch and a $10-$20 donation for The Boston Project. Why Do You Ask for a Financial Donation?
It may seems odd that some of our volunteer opportunities have a financial donation requested per person. Most of us think - "I'm giving my time, why are they asking for my money too?" The truth is it takes quite a bit of work to host and organize service projects. On average, it will take about 5-8 hours planning time to host a group of 10 volunteers for a Saturday. Your donation also goes towards the cost of needed supplies for the project. The Boston Project Ministries is able to continue to serve people and organizations because of generous financial donations by people like yourself.
