DonateNew Park Bulletin Board - So Close...$1,000 To GoOur new children's park is about to open and the last item we need to raise funds for is a community bulletin board. This is a great way for neighbors both near and far to make a lasting investment in this park. Since the beginning of our ministry God has used people giving their time, energy, spiritual gifts, professional skills, and more to invigorate His work here in Dorchester. So we put together this list of 27 Ways to Get Involved this Summer with the hopes that you might find something that spurs your imagination to get involved in God's kingdom work in a new and creative way. Boxes of Cereal and LasagnaTo help feed our hundreds of volunteers and staff this summer, we need your help. Organize your church one Sunday to have each family donate one box of cereal to The Boston Project, gather some friends to prepare lasagnas (frozen, uncooked) for a dinner, or contribute yourself. We need in total 100 boxes of cereal and 45 lasagnas. Contact to contribute. |
OutreachGrand Opening of Elmhurst Street Children's Park!Over 200 neighbors and friends joined us on Saturday, June 27 to celebrate 10 years of work resulting in the opening of our new children's park. Read the article in the Boston Globe, Boston Metro, and check out the Globe's photo gallery. More pictures soon to come. Talbot-Norfolk Triangle Vacant LotsOn Saturday, May 30 over 25 neighbors (youth and adults) gathered to walk to seven (7) city-owned vacant lots to dream together about potential future greenspace uses. Ideas such as a children's teaching/community garden, passive park-bus stop, landscaped parking areas, a dog walking area, and more emerged. Summer Jobs & Internships for TeensAs an act of economic justice and youth development, we are hoping to provide jobs and internships for 20+ youth this summer between the ages of 12-19. Preference is given to young people who live in the Talbot-Norfolk Triangle. Contact Paul for information. |

Serve & LearnProject Angel Wings Clean Up - April & MayNeighbors are invited to join us on our two spring clean up days at the historic Codman Burying Ground along Norfolk Street on Saturday, April 25 (Boston Shines) and Saturday May 16 from 1:00-4:00 PM. Second Church in Dorchester is planning a special event here for Memorial Day, Monday, May 25 from 1:00-4:00 PM to celebrate our veterans and the history in this place. 2009 Summer Missions ProgramStill an opening August 9-14, 2009! Now entering its 14th year, our summer short-term missions trips for junior high and high school youth groups is open for registration. We host teams from 5-30, offering a Bible-based experiential education with service rooted in year-round community development work. Check out our web section and available dates. Service DaysSpend a service day with The Boston Project and experience an introduction to our ministry, a scripture-based devotion, and 2-6 hours of service addressing needs in Boston. Open to youth, college, and adult groups. A $10-$20 per person donation is appreciated. Contact us for available dates. Currently scheduling Fall 2009. |
Volunteer & Jobs2009 Summer Staff - Summer Missions Program(Update 6/16: we have filled all our positions. Stay tune for opportunities in summer 2010.) We are our hiring for our Summer Missions Program Summer Staff. We will hire 13+ young adults to work as staff counselors, program directors, and a service & outreach coordinator. Applications are on-line. Men are strongly encouraged to apply. Start date is June 14th. Contact Keith with any questions. 2009 Summer Staff - Neighborhood Youth Ministries(Update 6/16: depending on funding, hiring will continue until June 29). We are in our hiring process for our Neighborhood Youth Ministries Summer Staff. We will hire 1+ young adults to serve as staff for children's programs, 2+ Park Patrol (our youth environmental program), and a person to help host our Teen Cafe (new). Applications are on-line. Director of Development / Public RelationsThe Boston Project is looking for a person to join our staff team in the area of development; particularly grant writing, cultivating relationships with foundations, churches, and individual donors, and researching new sources of funding.
