Winterville First Baptist Church/University of Georgia

The Boston Project kicked off 2006 with a week-long missions trip hosting a college-aged group from Winterville First Baptist Church in Winterville, GA. The team chose cold Boston weather and intense week of service over a more relaxing and comfortable winter break. They joined us in serving the city of Boston and learning about complex issues of urban life and urban ministry.

“Getting to work with The Boston Project was incredible. I was able to see first-hand just a glimpse of how urban ministry works.”
- Dan, University of Georgia

“I’ve done urban mission work in San Francisco and Toronto, but it doesn’t compare to the knowledge gained through The Boson Project. The homeless ministries, food banks, homework centers, etc. have been about the same everywhere. The major difference is in the personal urban missions training. You’re going to work hard all week, but you’ll learn more than you could ever give.”
– Daniel, University of Georgia

It was an amazing week for all involved – both staff and participants. We were able to join together in loving and working for the underserved areas of Boston. One theme that emerged from the week was service to those on the ‘frontlines’ of ministry through giving extra hands and feet to their staff and re-energizing their efforts in Boston. They not only sorted and salvaged goods at Fair Foods but also served workers there by transporting coal and wood to be used to heat a home. At Rosie’s Place, the team served a meal and put in extra help as they sorted through donations, unloaded a food delivery, and helped with a newsletter mailing. The team also helped us here at The Boston Project in cleaning and organizing our garage that is used to store service and outreach supplies.

“I think my favorite part of the whole week…was being able to do the little things for the people that work so hard for others. Being able to go behind the scenes and kind of be on staff or help out the people that are usually helping others was a great thing…It was great to be able to work with so many passionate people.”
– Emily, Emmanuel College (GA)
