Moving (on)
While we wish we were already moving to a new house (wow, that was a lot of w's), we are simply moving on to another step in the house-buying process. Here's an update:
After our offer on the first house was declined, the house was re-listed a week later for 50% MORE than its original price from $280,000 to $415,000. In keeping track of literally dozens of local properties over the past six months, this is the FIRST and ONLY house I have seen increase in asking price AT ALL. Considering that the house was already overpriced, we are not quite sure what the bank who owns it is thinking. I guess they just like owning vacant houses.
While we may continue to put an offer in every month or so that it sits unsold, we have taken this as a pretty clear sign that this is probably not the house for us. And we are okay with that. We continue to trust that God will direct us to the right house in his own way. Which brings us to our second update...
We are prayerfully considering making an offer on a different house, and again ask you to pray with us. This house, we'll call it the "Main Street House," is a three-family house in great condition with a pretty decent size city yard. Our apartment would be ideal for the type of ministry we are involved in, since there are 3 floors - the first is living space, the second is bedrooms and laundry, and the third has two small bedrooms.
One of the major considerations with this house is its location on a busy main street area that is mixed residential and business. We are thinking through all the implications of this location, and would ask you to pray for wisdom as we consider what it would be like living there.
