Day 119

Patience! That's not what I want to hear! This was my first reaction to what Sarah felt God was showing her from the story of Noah. We all know that it rained for (say it with me) forty days and forty nights, right? And at the end of the story, God establishes Noah in a new life. But what happens in between is a whole lot of waiting - 150 days of waiting. That's almost four times as long as it rained in the first place! As Sarah recently read this story, she sensed that God was just giving her a glimpse of how He sometimes chooses to work.

We began looking at houses the first week of January, pumped up and ready to move into a new place that God has prepared for us. Now seventeen weeks (that's 119 days, for the record), forty-five viewed houses, and two declined offers later, we are probably feeling a bit like Noah on day 119 or so. Still confident of God's direction and promise, we are learning patience and total dependency on God's faithfulness.

So far we have put in offers on two houses, and the door has been shut (even slammed) in both cases. Our first offer was rejected, and then the asking price was raised by 50% the very next week. Our second offer was turned down in favor of another comparable offer. While both of these were hard to swallow, the circumstances simply take those houses out of consideration, which in a way provides direction as well. In some ways we feel back at square one, but we know we are wiser than before.

We are now considering whether to continue the process through the beginning of the summer or to wait until the fall when life is less busy.
