Visiting old friends

This past weekend, I got the chance to travel down to Pennsylvania and New Jersey with some Dorchester friends to visit some previous Boston Project staffers. It was a lot of fun, and I got to spend some time with the families of two dear friends.

While we were there, we got to go hear Nithin Thompson, ex-BP intern turned youth pastor extraordinaire preach at his new church. He preached on Jeremiah 29:4-14, which is one of my favorite passages of scripture. He shared three key points, which were to

1) embrace shalom
2) reject compromise
3) expect God to do big things

It was a really encouraging time, remembering that God worked (and works!) in big and crazy ways, and that He brought a sense of peace and wholeness to people when they least expected it. It was a good reminder to not believe things that are not true - about any situation I may be, about others, about myself - no matter how tempting it might be and how good the lie might sound. HIs words really spoke to me as I try to find balance and peace in the midst of transition, some of which stresses me out! God is here. He has plans for me, for Codman Square, for The Boston Project. And His plans are BIG!!!!!!!!!

One crazy moment during our trip involved some COUNTRY LINE DANCING. Oh, I am not kidding. Not one bit! We went to the "Colorado Cafe", where the brother of a friend goes country line dancing every Sunday night. It was hilarious, because while some of the songs were old school country songs, and were what we expected to see, some of the songs were current popular songs on the radio with line dancing put to it. I'm talking Miley Cyrus here... hilarious!

All in all, it was nice to get out of the city for a bit, but I am back refreshed and ready for more. It's going to be a busy winter/spring, and I want to dive right in!
