Tis the season!

So, I'm kind of obsessed with the Christmas season. I love everything about it. From the smell of pine, to the twinkling of lights to sipping on eggnog or cider, and being with family... it's just fabulous!

One of my favorite Christmas things is Handel's Messiah. It's a beautiful piece of music, and lyrically is a powerful image of Christ's birth to death and resurrection. One of the memories I had from when I lived in DC was when my roommates and I went to see a performance of Handel's Messiah in it's entirety performed by the National Symphony Orchestra with the Kennedy Center's Chorus. The performance was also a SING-A-LONG! And you know me... I love to sing :). A friend who came with me felt inspired after to spend some of the Christmas season meditating on the verses that had inspired Handel to write the Messiah and just spend those weeks reading through selections of prophecy, the gospels, and Paul's letters.

What a neat idea to think of Handel writing a way to guide some of your devotional time! I plan on spending this last week and a half leading up to Christmas going through some of the music and meditating on those verses. It's also neat because at church, we have a few classically trained singers who have been sharing selections from the Messiah. I just love it!

And on a less serious note... another favorite Christmas thing of mine is the movie ELF! Cmon... you know you love it :)
