Why An Apprenticeship?

What are the Apprenticeships?
We hope to create individualized experiences for our apprentices. These job descriptions are not exclusive, but can easily be mixed and matched to fit you. We ask that you pray about those that interest you. Then we ask that you talk with us about how we might best serve and learn together.
These are the current apprenticeship roles (in alphabetical order, not in order of importance):
Children and Youth Ministry
- Plan special youth-oriented community events in the park
- Tutor young people at our after-school Homework Center
- Relational/discipleship ministry with children and youth
- Host Sunday Morning Breakfast Club
- Lead summer Bible Club, fine arts, and recreational programs
- Assist with summer youth employment program (coming in 2007)
Communications
- Improve/produce with team external communications (newsletter, brochures, web content)
- Develop press releases
- Graphic design (logos, outdoor signs)
- Oversee video and Power Point production
- Produce communications for special events
Community Organizing
- Support our local neighborhood group (meeting preparation, creating/distributing flyers, recording minutes)
- Assist Parks Action Team in building two new children's parks
- Represent The Boston Project at various community meetings and committees
Development/Fundraising
- Donor database development & maintenance
- Work with Executive Director to nurture supporting church relationships
- Grant research and writing
- Assist in planning special fundraising event(s)
Non-Profit Administration/Finance
- Non-Profit accounting (data entry, financial reporting, budgeting)
- Office management (answering phones, purchasing supplies)
- Assisting Executive Director with business management projects
- Upgrade and maintain computer systems
- Support work for the Board of Directors
Service and Outreach Ministries
- Lead/organize service projects for Saturday Service Days (recruit staff, lead orientation and devotional, direct projects, closure)
- Coordinate/participate in Home Repair Ministry
- Help with renovation projects on The Boston Project's home
- Supervise/participate in a Fair Foods $1 a Bag Grocery site
- Facilitate Furniture Donation Ministry (maintain records, arrange pick ups and deliveries, send receipts)
Short-Term Mission Trip Coordination
- Oversee/Coordinate College Spring Break Trips (2-4 trips) (Housing, Food, Curriculum, Schedule, Staffing)
- Oversee/Coordinate Adult and High School Missions Trips (3+ trips per academic year)
- Join our Summer Missions Program staff (several positions available)
- Support staff for the Center for Urban Youth in Missions
Special Events
- Participate on a team organizing 4-5 annual community outreach events (event planning, networking, recordkeeping)
- Cooperate to recruit and supervise volunteers for special events
- Develop PR material
Volunteer Management
- Respond to inquires for volunteering
- Post volunteer opportunities on websites and search engines
- Welcome/Host/Thank/Appreciate volunteers
- Cooperate to plan Saturday Service Days
- Develop volunteer orientation and follow up
- Track volunteer data
Life As An Apprentice
We enjoy working, living, playing, and worshiping together.What sets life as an apprentice apart from other positions in this organization is that you will live alongside TPBM full time staff and their families. You get the full experience of loving your neighbors as we engage in constant ministry together.
